More solder pads on the New Mini means more total available storage- and the single 256GB NAND shipped this time also makes things easier for us to upgrade the storage. Also the NAND chips are most definitely upgradable.
So yeah you could possibly upgrade that when the technique has matured a bit more- I certainly will do an upgrade from 8 to 24 on a m2 Mini. 24GB Max on M2 also suggests triple channel memory layouts.
While I haven’t laid my hands on M2 Mac LBs I can say that the RAM placement and location will be more or less the same as the M1s albeit using LPDDR5 this time. No need to reprogram SPD ROM or hack other ROM data. By desoldering the 2 RAM chips from the SoC and replacing them with 2x8GB Chips the 8Gb to 16Gb Memory on M1 Macs can be achieved. The RAM chips, LPDDR4X on the M1 is soldered directly onto the M1 chip. So um, as far as I, a guy who fixes Macs on a board level scale has known is that the M series chips work with memory in another fashion.
